The Ballad of Sir Hugo and Gui Le Batard

The Bridge on the River Wye

The Raid On The Grain Store

We played the first two scenarios from the first of the Warheads books. Sir Hugo won both battles, boo hiss. The combat was remarkably quick, with figures falling after two or three attacks. When I’d first read through the rules, I thought that Morale would come into play more, but didn’t affect either game.

The rules are relatively simple to use and fairly clear. The only gripes we had were minor, why no Test Table on the QRS and surely a halberd should use Body and not Agility. These were the only two things that stuck in my mind. We also had a few queries with the multiple melee, so I’ll try for answers on the forum.

The figures for Warheads are a bit Marmite, you either love or hate them. I love them, and in keeping with their cartoony design, I made the terrain to suit this look.

We’ll have a few weeks now before we can try out the third scenario from the book. This introduces prayer to the mix. I do like the idea of introducing new rules throughout the books.

Star Wars 1917: A Brave New Hope

While looking at the terrain for the Battle of Towton, the idea came up for using it as a canyon for the Star Wars destroy the Deathstar. I thought it would look good being set in 1917 with biplanes. Here's what I managed to achieve.

The Good Guys

On the left is Sir Lucas Wingwalker's Sopwith X-wing. On the right is Red's DH2 Y-Wing.

The Bad Guys

On the left is the Albatross Tie fighter and on the right Baron Von Vader, the Black Baron's Fokker Tri-fighter.

The Deathstar balloon and guard.

Close up showing the Emperor and his personnal guard, as well as two units of Imperial Guard.

All the models are 1:72. We are going to use the rules from Wings of War to play the game. Hopefully it may make an appearance at Baccus's Gamesday on Sunday 22nd July. Provided we finish The Battle of Towton early enough.

Albion Forever

In the last of these three entries we have the latest updates to the Forces of Albion, for our ongoing Sci-Fi campaign.
As Albion pushes into space, the role of policing the spaceways, requires a special force. With this in mind the Albion Space Service was created. On the right we see the regular forces and on the left the Powered suits.
These are the Galahad Knights a unit whose members work solo or in small groups behind enemy lines.
These are the first two aircraft of the Albion Air Force.
And finally we have the heavy stuff. On the right the artillery and on the left the new jump capable power armour.

Warheads and Saxons

For Christmas I got some of Urban Mammoth's Warheads figures. I've been looking at these for a while and couldn't quite decide about the cartoony sculpts. I'm a definite convert they are full of character and easy to paint. Now to get around to playing the game.
This is the beginnings of my Saxon Army for Impetus. Hopefully they should get to be used in anger soon. February has been a bad month for playing games :-(.

Black Powder Punk Game Getting there

This is the first two complete pieces of terrain for our Black Powder Punk Game (BPP). Hopefully we should be playing this in the very near future. It is set in the 1700s on the fictitious continent of Pacifica. This has been colonised by the royalist exiles from the English Civil War. More on the background when the game is played.
This is the new terrain with it's wharf at the front and warehouse.

These two picture show some of the figures for the game, including the Topknots who are native to the land and are plant based.

November Progress

Yet again it's been a while since I've posted on the blog, so here is some of the things I've been doing.
First off the first two aircraft for Star Wars 1917 are finished. The Albatross Tie Fighter on the left and the Sopwith X Wing on the right. They still need basing and we will be using the Wings of War rules to replay the Death Star canyon run. I now have the models for Baron Von Vaderhoffens Fokker Tri-Fighter and The De Havilland DH2 Y wing.
These are the ships for the spacefleet of the mighty Albion Kingdom. They are all Brigade Models miniatures and they will soon be flying into action using the Starmada rules.
These two are part of the on going game in a box series. This is the game Outrider, vehicular combat in the near future. All the set and counters are magnetised and will hopefully see the light at a games show near you next year.
I've had these for a while and have finally got around to painting them.
Finally these are the new Baccus Anglo-Saxons ready to go to battle, in a new system for me, Impetus. Hopefully at some point Ruarigh will have some Vikings for them to face.
Hopefully it won't be as long until my next update.

Lacepunk Terrain Part One

Well as you can see I've finally finished the first part of the Lacepunk terrain. Gateway City, where the game will take place, is built on unnatural terraces around a bay. The buildings are removable and I intend to make pieces which can be added to the terrain to give it a longer lifespan.
It will probably also end up being used for a variety of other games, with a little change to the movable pieces.
The only thing I'm not completely happy with is the water, but it's getting there.
The basic construction is EPS on top of an MDF board, this was then covered in plaster bandages. The second piece should be much easier and is around half way through now. The buildings are all balsa wood and have detachable roofs and levels.
Cheers
